Thing #6: More Flickr Fun

I played around with Montage. I did one with roses and with my first initial M, but I could not download this on my post. I will keep trying. This is a fun tool.

Thing #16: Playing around with wikis

I set up my account and added my favorite book and movies. This was fun. I will add more of my favorites to this.

Thing #13: Tagging

In exercise 13 we learned about tagging. I wasn't sold on this at first, because I question how valid the information might be on the subjects being tagged. I do see the benefits of tagging, after viewing the video. This can be a very helpful tool. I do intend to explore this more.

Thing #22: Digital Media

This exercise was to discover MOLDI. This is digital media downloads available through CML. I took a look at the book titles, music titles and movie title available for download. I will go back and try to download each type of media. This was a good exercise for me ,to become familiar with downloading from the CML homepage. It will make it easier to explain downloads to our patrons.

Thing #23: Is This really the End??

Learn and Play was a great learning tool for me. Each exercise taught me something new. My favorite Exercise was #20, using You Tube. Several exercises introduced me to tools I can use on my job, and also for personal use. I'm looking forward to using Google.doc. I can't think of anything at the moment CML can do to improve this. These tools opened a wide variety of sources to me. I will participate in the next CML discovery program. Thank you for the experience.

Thing #21: Podcasts

I looked at three Podcast directories, Podfeed.net, Podcastalley.com and Google Podcast Directory. I like Podfeed.net. It list subjects you can take a look at to find what you're interested in. I checked out the music podcast, which is something I would be interested in. I found a several podcast for libraries. Podcast could be used in a variety of ways for the library. I work in AV so I found a Classic Films Podcast. www.podfeed.net/tags/classic%20films. Maybe we could do something like this with our Foreign Films list. I definitely think this is something CML should explore.

Thing #19 Explore CML's own Tool Box

Explored CML's tool Box. What a great tool. I knew a little bit about Firefox. I heard it was a alternative to using Google for searching. GMail sound great. I might look into this further. I like the idea of putting CML's tool box on my computer Too.

Thing #17: Web-Based Apps

I worked in Google Doc. with this exercise. This is great. This is used just like a Office word, or wordperfect, and excel. I have used all these at work. I would like to use excel at home without having to purchase it. Now I can do this with Google Doc. This could be used in the library. It would be great to offer this to our patrons.

Thing #15: So what's in a Wiki?

It was interesting to see how some libraries put Wiki to use. I like the Book Lover's wiki. I think this could be a good way to promote CML's summer reading program. The participants in the Summer reading program could enter their personal views on the books they have read. They could also keep track of their progress, and introduce and recommend books to others. This is a good tool

Thing #14 On Library 2.0 And Web 2.0

Library 2.0 and Web 2.0 opens up a wide variety of sources and technology for library use. I'm not sure how CML would incorporate this into it's current website. How would we determine what to use, and how it would be beneficial to our library patrons. What kind of control or limitations would we have over such a vast amount of knowlege. How we use it effectively to meet the needs of our patrons???

Thing #18: Discovering Web 2.0 tools

Workings on Thing #18 is dealing with Web 2.0 tools. I took a look at Craigslist for Columbus, Ohio. I looked at a section of items people were giving away for free. Someone was giving away a house trailer. They just wanted to get rid of it. I also looked at a music section, and pulled up List Free at Last.fm. You can put in a artist name, and find out what current music they have out. You also get a brief biography of the artist. This is not a bad site. There are an abundance of things to look up on Web 2.0 tools. I think the library could find some uses for this tool.

Thing #20

Thing #20 exercise is to take a look at You Tube. This is a fun website. You can find almost any video you would like to see. You can add videos you like or video clips you make yourself. I played around and found one of my favorate t.v. commericals. It's the Hallmark Fathers Day card MC Hammer Time. Enjoy

Library Thing #12 : Twitter

I just completed Library #12, which is learning about twitter. I did enjoy reading some of the CML twitter trends, such as people's thoughts on the movie Twilight, and Obama. I don't think I will be using this often, unless CML uses it has an information tool. My twitter is:

My Library Thing

Exercise 11 is learning about LibraryThing. This is a great way to have your own personal catalog of the books you have read and/or list books you would like to read.

Thing #9 Finding Feeds

This is exercise #9 of CML's Learn and Play. We created Bloglines in our last exercise. One can create a blogline to receive regularly updated information over the web. This exercise provided search tools for finding news feeds, etc., which can be added to your blogline. We were given three sites to explore, Topix.net, Syndic8.com and Technorait. I didn't care for any of the three. Each site bascially listed current topics with people's opinions, thoughts and comments. I would pick Topix.net, if I had to choose. It had a good format and layout. I couldn't find anything on the subjects, I was looking for. I suggest finding a source through an established newspaper, magazine, etc. Do take a look at one of the three sites listed above. You may find something of interest to you.

My Bloglines

I was working on exercise #8 in CML's Learn and Play. This is described as Make Life "really simple" with RSS feeds. RSS stands for Really simple syndications, which allows you to recieve updated information over the web. You can pick what you like. For example favorate book sites, newspaper sites, shopping sites, fashion etc. Take a look at my blogline, if you're interested. You might find one you like.

ENJOY:-)

Hall and Oates Blog

Hall and Oates are one of my favorate bands. I became a fan in high school when the song Sara Smile was released. It was on the silver album (YES AN ALBUM) with Hall and Oates wearing makeup. That didn't go over so well, but the album was great. I recommend listening to their older albums/Cds, such as Abandoned Luncheonette and War Babies. I also recommend both Daryl Hall's solo cd Soul Alone and John Oates's solo cd Phunk Shui. Check out their blog.

New Technology for MP3 players

When I was a pre-teen, I thought having a cassette tape recorder was heaven. I could record my favoriate songs from the radio, by holding the microphone to the radio. This was time consuming of course, because you never knew, when the songs you wanted would get played. I finally got a full stereo, that allowed me to record my records on cassette tape. Next a cd player that records. I never could image there would be something better than a walkman. I currenly have a Zen MP3 player, which is 4gb. It can hold up to 2000 songs. I would like to have one that can download video clips. Zen has put out a new MP3 player advertised on their web site as Zen-World's First 32gb Flash Media player. Take a look at this on Zen's Web site http://www.creative.com/. I can't image using up 32gbs, but I have at least 1700 songs on 4gb Creative Zen. Just think of the possibilities:-)

Sunset in Hawaii

I downloaded a picture I took in Hawaii. In 2004, my parents and I went to Hawaii to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. This is just one picutre I took of the sun setting over the ocean. I wish everyone could enjoy a trip to Hawaii. It is just beautiful. The beauty of the islands really reminds you to appreciate what the Lord has given us . (See picture at the right of my blog)
